Proscar Ireland is for men only, its main function is to prevent testosterone from being converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the patient’s body. DHT is commonly associated with the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Description of the medicinal product
Proscar (generic name: Finasteride) is commonly used to treat enlarged symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) for the following main purposes:

Proscar Ireland should never be taken by children or women. Because finasteride is absorbed through the skin, women and children should not handle Proscar tablets.

If you have had an allergic reaction to a medicine similar to Proscar (ie Dutasteride or Avodart).

Although Proscar Ireland is not indicated for use by women, it may cause certain birth defects in children if women are exposed during pregnancy. Effects on sperm characteristics
Treatment with Proscar for 24 weeks to assess sperm parameters in healthy male volunteers showed no clinically relevant effects on male sperm concentration, morphology, motility or pH. At the same time, a mean decrease in ejaculation volume of 0.6 ml (22.1%) was observed with a decrease in total sperm count per ejaculation. These parameters were still within the normal range and were virtually reversible upon discontinuation of treatment. It took an average of 84 weeks to return to normal.

Less serious side effects of Proscar include:

- skin rash.
